Nicky Chamberlain who lives in London had a knock on his door from Government official asking him to take down his TV aerial. This is because his aerial is a booster aerial with a stronger signal. They explained it wasn’t a danger but for safety reasons they had to take it down. Nicky said he was frustrated because a man he hadn’t met before can tell him whether he can watch TV. He said he was quite annoyed when he found out. it was shocking to him as they have had that aerial a long time and it suddenly it causes problems for such giant things.
Ofcom (Office of Communications) said “This isn’t a common problem, but it does happen occasionally. The aerials are sometimes quite cheap or badly constructed and sometimes go wrong.”
According to Ofcom, pilots coming into land at the airport kept losing contact with the control tower because his aerial was transmitting on the same frequency as the cockpit radios. Pilots had to change the frequency quick to gain back communication with the control tower. The problem was first noticed on October 6th when a plane’s flight path went over Nicky’s house and it lost contact while flying over the house. Nicky said he was upset but it was better than causing a plane to crash. Ofcom ordered them to dispose of the aerial in the bin.
This will leave Nicky having to try to get the remote from his brothers and sisters downstairs now. Hard luck Nicky.
