Last night at the BT tower there was a fireworks display to mark one-thousand days till the London 2012 Olympics. They have also had an electronic information band installed that will countdown the opening ceremony. The enormous band is round the thirty-sixth and thirty-seventh floors. BT is a sponsor for the games and the event was shown on BBC One’s The National Lottery Draw Show. Dame Kelly Holmes had the job of pressing the button to set off the whole display.
Sebastian Coe, the chairman of London 2012 said: “Reaching 1,000 days to go gives us an opportunity to celebrate.” In the last couple of days there has also been the launch of the first Corgi London 2012 toy and a badge to mark the occasion which are both on sale a Hamley’s toy store. The launch of the BT Road to 2012 Project was on Friday. The project is some portraits of the people who play a role in London 2012 that will be going on display at the National Portrait Gallery. The Next event like this will be on December 3rd which will be one-thousand days till the Paralympic Games. I will hopefully be reporting on that.
